De gustibus non desputandum est. (more or less) Matters of taste cannot be
disputed.

What are the 'official' record industry categories and subcategories? If
they exist, then start there.

This area is a rats nest of pointless, endless debate. Something SIMPLE
like being able to tell the client to play me a couple of Jazz tunes is what
most people want. (or whatever grossly-generalized-genre you prefer)

Allowing a local client to offer more is up to the author of the client
software. Simple facts like, what Album, the track name, when it was
released and what broad category it fits exist NOW and can be used.
Additional stuff like WHERE is was recorded, using what format, blah, blah,
blah; is this worth wandering into for a server structure?
