Random Thoughts: Cataloging, Multiple Languages

Hey all,

Just a couple of ideas I thought I'd throw up in the air. I must admit the
volume of this list is a bit on the high side, so I'm not sure if these
issues have been raised yet. If they have, my apologies. If not,
excellent.

First off, I've a bit of a qualm with the entry system at
http:://www.freeamp.org/cdindex/ -- when presented with the form to fill
out, I'd no idea how to enter the artist's name, i.e., Last, First or First
Last? Which leads to the question of whether the artist's name should be
treated as one unit and give the users information on how to enter
information, or as two separate units? Not all artists have a first and
last name, either, which complicates the issue.

Second, will there be support for multiple languages? I own a fair number
of classical cds, and when using CDDB, I've noticed that I'm about as likely
to get an entry in French or German as I am in English. It would be nice if
the new protocol supported multiple entries for the same CD, each in a
different language.

That's all I've thought of for now. Hopefully this new protocol will emerge
as something *far* better than CDDB. I've never really been impressed with
it :S
