Using the existing DNS databases - nailing .TXT records to a given domain
prefix and the cddb style short hash (you can do MD5 checks after)

Yes. Your ISP will be caching cd data and saving traffic across the network
just like caching names for the same reason

When a lookup fails you remember the fact for a while. So it wont go digging
across the world for an entry the second time you shove your new cd in,
your local DNS server will remember that it doesnt exist. After a few
hours it expires the entyr
