My feeling is to make it part of the track name -- if we accomodate
every request for a new field, we would have a very unwieldy system
very soon.
I would like to see an 'edit' function for every facet of data that we
have available in the system -- this way people can go in and edit
something if it does not suit them.
I have never really espoused some of the my thoughts on how such a
system should work, so let me take a minute to share some of my
thoughts on this:
I'd like to see the CD Index evolve into a gigantic living data
structure, where people can choose to make a small, large or no
contribution at all. I hope that people will adopt certain bands/CDs
and make sure the CD Index is up to date with the information for those
bands. So if the notation nomenclature changes or we add a new field
to the database, these people will take the time to update the
database. I am more than willing to do this for my favorite bands, and
I suspect that other people would do so as well.
At the beginning I could not see exactly what pieces of information
should be capture and what the best way for doing everything was. (I
still can't...) So in the spirit of release early and often, we got the
system up and running. This means that we will be making changes to the
system as we go along, and that will require maintenance on the data.
The more people are helping out, the lesser the burden on any one
person. However, we must ensure that this system is easy to use and
responsive at the same time.
At this point it would be a good idea to create a 'submission
guidelines' document that covers points like:
- Add the mix information in parens () at the end of the track.
- Enter [Data Track] for a data track.
Thoughts?
