For some unknown reason every Win32 GUI code I have ever seen looked far
worse than OS/2 Presentation Manager code - and both systems have the
same ancestors.

That is why I love cygwin, you can stick to POSIX mostly.

And as long as you don't have to code GUI stuff, there is still much
room for sane programming - I did network programming for a Win32
database client for two years and was very happy that I could stick to
the Berkley sockets API 90% of the time..

While we are at it, is it OK for you if I would adapt your GTK client
to run under Win32 and OS/2 later this month?

It should be easy, knowing that the GIMP has been ported by a crazy
Finn to Win32 and that there is a XFree86 based GIMP/2 out too.
