Another minor suggestion(s):
Maybe it would be useful to pad the discid with some check digits to be
able to check it for validity (e.g. some checksum or modulo thing).

PS: Another suggestion is to allow only unicode data (or pure 7b acii,
thus UTF-8 is fine), otherwise we would have to cope with charset
tagging (with another problems with mixed charsets etc) ..
