A friend of mine, Peter Zankl, created a database which
seems to fit our needs perfectly.
I made him release it now and tonight we put together
some first pieces on:

It's incomplete, it's partly in german, sources are still
missing (he's cleaning them up riht now :) but there are
dataformat definitions, a query-language draft and an
example program (only the windows-version is online, but
amiga and beos implementations exist too).
Please have a look at it and play with it...
I made him sing up to the mailing-lists, so he'll hear
your comments and suggestions,...
And the best thing is: he put everything under GPL :)
