I noticed that the discussion runs along a couple of
different strands (coding style guide, goals listing, public lib
api, portability issues, implementation details, data model,
distributed system design, communiction api, low level drive access,
etc), so I will try to destill some different docs in a new
developers section on the web site and reference them here (maybe as
lynx or w3 rendered text versions like Stephen did)
