I think XML and HTML is going way overboard. It's not needed, and is hard to
parse. I'm in favor of cddb-style KEY=data format. If you want to add another
feature, add another key. No big deal. Here are a list of thinsg I want to see:
* NO MUSIC GENRES. Genres are so loosely defined, and they just add
complexity for no good reason. Keep them out.
* We need to be able to use this over a proxy/firewall. cdindex's current
system looks fine for that.
* We need the system to be easily mirrable.
* Data licensing isn't up to the protocol or the program, it's up to the
bandwidth provider.
* We need a reference implementation, in ANSI C (as far as possible. Clearly
CD ioctls wouldn't fall under this). A libcdindex would be good.
* May I suggest using CDDB's index system, instead of cdindex's MD5 hash?
There's no need to reinvent the wheel. It also makes for easy fallback on
CDDB servers.
* Please, let's not overengineer the project. KISS! (keep it simple, stupid)
