When I entered 2pac's greatest hits tonight, I made a mistake hitting
"#" instead of "'" - I was surprised that I was able to edit it immediatly!
I expected a majority vote and the old entry winning over the new in this
par situation.
How about this idea?
If one supplies a CD to the server, one gets a special "edit ticket" string
in return, that gives one editing privileges later!
The database keeps these edit tickets secret and will favour edit tries
let's say with 5 votes than the normal 1 vote.
+ Limiting: This will favour people that own the CD in question
(if an entry is not obvious bull, it is not possible to judge it without
access to authentic cd information, thus owning the cd or asking some
other database)
+ Anonymity: This is better than storing the e-mail address of the supplier,
which might be used to create ownership profiles by unwanted parties
- Additional administration: The database has to keep the tickets hidden,
the suppliers client software has to keep the tickets in a local database
+ Robustness: If the ticket information gets lost, or is not provided
to a db cloner, the data is still editable (only the distinguishing is
lost)
