Accidental or intentional - do the authors care anymore?

I am not even sure what is the best way on the FreeBSD system I use.

Sticking with the cd device (easy, covers non SCSI drives too, but is
FreeBSD specific) or using SCSI commands (more complicated, but might be
usable on other UNIXes too).
