Distributed Data

I think that one of the most important things in any cddb replacement
project will be to eliminate the single points in the data stream. (For
example, submitting the data to only one server.) This way a single party
can't decide to take the data and go home.

While the two existing services seem to eventually want to move to
replicating their services, I think that they still have some flaws.
For example, there is only one way to get the data into the systems. (Not
that I don't trust the guys running the new servers, it's that I'd prefer
a tchnological solution so this doesn't happen again.)

If I had to propose a plan, I'd suggest some sort of newsgroupish
environment in which new cd submissions would be posted to. This would
allow for anyone who wishes to to go in and retrieve the information and
add it to a private database. (Ie, a post to the cdinfo group would be
read by both private collectors and global repositories, and would allow
them to update their repositiories.) If a repository decides to go AWOL,
one can simply use one of the others.

Just a thought.
